OUR STORY
The Bassonovas are a Community Samba Percussion Group based in the suburb of Bassendean, just 10 kms East of Perth City. We first began in February 2007 and today, continue to party in WA, with our own funky compositions and rhythms from Brazil! We were initially established by the Town of Bassendean council, who still play a huge role in our ongoing success! The original founders were Richy Glasgow, Jacqui Otago and current Musical Director Maria Daniels (MD - Pardon the pun!) For the last few years, Maria has taught Samba and African drumming through the community sector, to great success! If you're looking for a lively group to attend your next event, if you want to improve your drumming skills or even learn for the first time - you've come to the right place.

Musical Director
Hi, I'm Maria Daniels, the passionate musician and teacher behind the Bassonovas! My musical journey started at 12, playing guitar and bass in bands around London. Now, with 27 years of experience, I've taught guitar, instructed high school bands, managed bookings, and fallen in love with the vibrant rhythms of Samba and African percussion. Lately, I've been exploring the RAV Vast, Handpan drums, African Kora, Double Bass, and Piano! My diverse background and love for music and percussion fuel my passion for the Bassonovas, and I can't wait to share that with you.
At the Bassendean Community Hall, a passionate group of drummers gathers weekly for lessons that fuel their love for music and percussion! This vibrant community not only hones their skills together but also showcases their talent by participating in various gigs and events across Perth. Their enthusiasm and dedication create an inspiring atmosphere, making each session an exciting opportunity for fun music and connection. Join them as they share their rhythm and passion with the world!
